Pictured: Giving members of the McGolrick Bird Club a live sonar demonstration during a 2024 Prospect Park bat walk
I give guided bat walks through the summer at parks all over NYC. Groups are limited to 25 people and events usually go from 8 PM - 10 PM. Most of my events are free of charge! Keep an eye on the NYC Bird Alliance events calendar for bat walks in Prospect Park (BK) and Kissena Park (Queens). I also occasionally organize events with other groups, like Queer Birders and McGolrick Bird Club, follow me on Instagram, @lesscommonloons, to keep up with these.
I do free bat walks through NYC Bird Alliance in the summer and fall. These take place at the Dog Beach in Prospect Park and Kissena Lake in Kissena Park, we meet at 8:30. Registration is required and limited to 25.

If you want a bat experience with truly immaculate vibes, come join me at Green-Wood Cemetery for some after hours bat spotting.Green-Wood bat walks go from 8:45 - 10:45 PM, the non-member price for registration is $30. I am proud to be an ecology research fellow with the cemetery and love giving bat walks there! Green-Wood has a very active bat population, my current record for most bats detected during a bat walk there is over 200!

You definitely do not need to be an expert to find bats in NYC. If you're up for an early evening adventure, I highly encourage you give bat spotting a try. You can find all the information you'll need on the "How to Help Bats in NYC" page. If you do manage to spot some bats in the city, I would really love it if you filled out a bat sighting form to let me know, it's super helpful data!
I'm always happy to lead bat spotting events or lectures for organizations and communities. For more information, reach out to me by email.
