Bats are a historically understudied family of animals that we are just beginning to understand. The things we discover about them are often surprising. The more we learn, the more we realize that bats are among the greatest evolutionary success stories. There are over 1,400 species and, despite facing a number of conservation threats around the world, they can be found on every continent except Antarctica.
